Virtual herbarium. In botany, a virtual herbarium is a herbarium in a digitized form. That is, it concerns a collection of digital images of preserved plants or plant parts. Virtual herbaria often are established to improve availability of specimens to a wider audience.

Although India has an excellent collection of specimens vouchered and maintained in several well known herbaria, digital (virtual) herbaria are very few. Recently, some virtual herbaria have The Indian Virtual Herbarium (IVH) portal is proposed as a customization of the DSpace Digital Library System for archiving. The portal will consist of a user-friendly interface.
